Travelling I love travelling. It does not only allow me to experience other cultures, visit famous landmarks, explore new territories, but also gives me a break in the routine life. It is exciting when you realize yourself located in a seemingly familiar spot that you have seen in the television or a picture. It is fulfilling when the attraction which you have always dreamed to visit appears in front of you. It is fascinating when you meet a place that you have long heard about. It is proud when you witness a monument that is considered as one of the greatest in the world. It is nostalgic when you recognize the remains of a once strong and prosperous civilization. Amongst the place that I have visited, I find Gold Coast in Australia the most unforgettable because in that trip, I discovered the beauty of the nature for the first time in my life. I was eleven and living in Hong Kong at that time. It may not be the most beautiful place but for me, it was surely the most impressive. It will not be easily forgotten. Amongst the trips that I have taken, I find the trip in London the most adventurous, not because an accident had happened, but because it was the first time I traveled alone. I toured the city with the old and complicated subway system, hopped on and off the famous red double-decker buses even if I do not know where do they go. I managed to visit the landmarks without many problems. I enjoyed this freedom - to be able to go anywhere I wish in my own tempo. Amongst the landmarks that I have visit, I find the Stonehenge the most unexpected because I have never planned to go there before. When I flipped around a traveling catalogue, I found a one-day local tour to the Stonehenge. I read about it in books and found it astonishing when I was young. I have always dreamed to go there but I never knew that it is close to London. I have not missed that chance. I joined the tour and my dream was fulfilled. I was born in Hong Kong. I lived there for twelve years and it is my second-most familiar place. During that time, I traveled to several South-East Asian countries. My first flight was to Guilin, China. I was too young to remember the details. Later, I traveled to Malaysia and Singapore with my family. Although I was a year older, I still could not remember much details. Since I was in the oldest group of the North Point Methodist Church Children's Choir, I had the chance to join the annual tour. I went to Thailand. In 1991, because of the longer holidays during Easter due to the population census, we had a chance to go beyond Asia to visit Australia and New Zealand (just want to remind you, if you are bad in geography, that it is winter time in the southern hemisphere when we have our summer holidays). It was a totally different experience because that was the first time that I met the western world, which I found very pretty. I also felt the freedom in the open environment. In 1992, I moved to Montréal. In the few years which followed, I had only traveled to close destinations such as Québec City, Ottawa, Toronto and Niagara Falls. Until 1997, I have a chance to visit my relative in London. I joined a 3-day trip to Paris. I also spent a month in Hong Kong. That was the first time I went back to Hong Kong since I left. There were many new landmarks to visit and I was just like a tourist. In 1999, I went to a cruise to Alaska with my relatives. I saw glaciers and visited several towns. After the cruise , I stayed in Vancouver and Seattle for several days. I visited Boston in 2001 and New York, in 2002, a few months after the disaster. I went back to Hong Kong for the second time in 2002. There are many places that I want to go. China and Japan will top my list. Canada and United States are yet to be discovered. I hope I will be able to visit them in the near future. You can view my pictures in the photo gallery. |
